An amusing Embassy Suites ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign was shared on reddit recently:

Little touches like this can make a company stand out amongst the competition. Embassy Suites isn’t a luxury brand, it’s an affordably priced hotel option. Tweaking something as mundane as a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign is a quick and easy way to get your customer’s attention and put a smile on his or her face.

The above three examples show how each brand was able to tweak the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign to convey unique messaging consistent with their brand. I’m guessing cTwo is aiming for more of a trendy, young, edgy clientele; hence the sign design. Le Meridien, conversely, had a more modern feel. All three hotels, however, chose do to something different with an otherwise standard piece of information. These little changes don’t go unnoticed with customers, as indicated by the photos taken and shared on social media sites, Trip Advisor, etc. They’re likely to remember unique touches like amusing ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs and other standout messaging, and that can lead to repeat business and positive word of mouth.

Take a look at your messaging materials and see if there’s anything you can tweak to change it from being conventional to a little bit different. Not only will it help you stand out better amongst your competitors, it will provide a unique branding experience for your customers and show that you pay attention to the little things and aren’t afraid to have a little fun.
