The increased pace of change within the information world means that you are constantly challenged with learning new skills in order to thrive. The need for these new skills was recognized by SLA in the production of the document, "Competencies for Special Librarians of the 21st Century". The document, available at www.sla.org, outlines 11 Professional and 13 Personal Competencies necessary for successful information professionals.
The InfoPro Resource Center has been designed to provide you with the practical tools, examples, and templates needed to develop the skills outlined in the Competencies document. Throughout the year you will see new sections dealing with particular skills. You will be able to easily customize the templates to fit your own organization. You will also find additional reading and links to other web sites with related information. Sections include:
These tools have been developed by information consultant, Jan Sykes. Jan is an independent consultant specializing in information management projects. She has over fifteen years' management experience in the information industry, most recently as Senior Director of Client Services Consulting at Knight-Ridder Information.

Leadership Award
The Dow Jones Leadership Award is presented annually to a member of the Special Libraries Association who exemplifies leadership as a special librarian through examples of professional and personal competencies.
The Leadership Award is based on the 11 professional competencies and 13 personal competencies essential for special librarians, as highlighted in the "Competencies for Special Librarians for the 21st Century"
SLA Europe Information Professional Award
Dow Jones sponsors the SLA Europe Information Professional award, which seeks to recognize outstanding acheivement in special librarianship. The award, formerly called the European Special Librarian of the Year Award, is given to an established member of the profession living and working in Europe. The recipient receives an all-expense paid trip to the annual SLA conference.

The Customer Advisory Board includes senior level information professionals and other key Dow Jones users from around the world.
Members come from some of Dow Jones's top customers in consulting, financial services, publishing and other industry sectors.
Members meet annually to provide feedback and to meet with members of our Leadership Team. There is ongoing communication with Board members during the year as we preview new developments and solicit direction for Dow Jones products and services.
